JOB TITLE: Outreach Assistant - Homebound Service, Grade 19
LOCATION: Headquarters Library
DATE AVAILABLE: April 1, 2026
SALARY: $2,541 per month (Includes generous benefit package)

HOURS: 40 hours per week

Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Flexibility is required for occasional nights and weekends to accommodate outreach and community events.



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must pass pre-employment testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Selects books and other library materials for homebound patrons
  • Handles all circulation (checking out and in materials, placing holds, etc,) for homebound patrons
  • Delivers materials to patrons in a library vehicle or by mail
  • Provides patron assistance in person, over the phone, and via email
  • Maintains electronic records, information, and statistics regarding homebound services
  • Participates in the Outreach Department’s community events
  • Substitutes at branches, departments, and on the Bookmobile as needed


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Enjoys reading and suggesting titles to others
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills that display a positive attitude and the ability to interact with people from all backgrounds and age groups
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to work with a variety of devices and software
  • Attention to detail and a strong work ethic
  • Highly flexible with the ability to adapt to change
  • Organized with good time management and communication skills
  • Ability to take direction and to work independently or in a team environment
  • SCPL uses multi-factor authentication for network and program access. Employees may be required to use their personal device for MFA.
  • Driver’s license valid in the State of South Carolina with the ability to drive to other libraries or community outreach
