What are government documents?
Any book, pamphlet, meeting minutes, or other information published by a federal, state, or local government agency is a government document. A few examples are:
Census information
The US & SC Code of Laws
The 9/11 Commission Report
The Public Papers of the Presidents
The Hurricane Katrina Reports
NASA research
The No Child Left Behind Act
Reports from the Surgeon General
What documents are available at the Spartanburg County Public Libraries?
Extensive number of South Carolina state government documents
Approximately 23% of the federal documents currently being published
Some historic documents, such as US Census records going back to 1790 and the Personal Papers of the Presidents going back to Herbert Hoover‘s presidency
Our subject specialties include: Agriculture, Census, Congress, Education, Health, Technology, and NASA
We also maintain a Government Websites page and links through our online catalog for electronic access to thousands more documents.
Where are the government documents located?
Headquarters Library, top floor, contains the main government documents area.
Kennedy Room, our local history and genealogy room, also on the top floor of the Headquarters library, houses some historical documents.
Spartanburg Regional’s Health Sciences Library carries a small number of health related resources through a selective housing agreement.
Can government documents be checked out?
Yes. Most of our documents may be checked out for the normal 28 day period. A select few documents of high importance may not be checked out, although photocopiers are available for making copies of these items.

Yes. Most, though not all, current government publications are available online and can be accessed through:
