Photobook Begins June 2nd!

Photobook is a fun annual project that invites teens to explore and take pictures of Spartanburg County! One-time use cameras are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to 50 local teens each summer. The disposable cameras level the playing field and challenge teens to get creative and take great photos with no zoom feature and no instant gratification. It’s possible!

Winning photos will be selected in the following categories:

  • ·         Best Overall Photo
  • ·         Best Spartanburg-specific Photo
  • ·         Most Unusual Photo

The winners will each receive a $75 Barnes & Noble gift card. Cameras will be available starting June 2nd in the Teen Room or online at www.infodepot.org. Cameras will be checked out to teens’ library cards and are due by June 30th.

One photo from each camera will be on display at the Headquarters Library during the month of September, and an opening reception will be held in honor of the photographers.

Teen Summer Reading Begins June 2nd!

Summer means reading for fun and what’s better than that? Getting prizes for reading, of course! Start by signing up for Teen Summer Reading at any SCPL location, then read and attend teen events for a total of ten hours to complete a card. For your first one, you’ll receive a Coffee Bar voucher for a coffee or hot chocolate and an official TSR T-shirt!

Your card will also be entered in weekly drawings for awesome prizes, like Regal Cinemas and Barnes & Noble gift cards, and into grand prize drawings for a PlayStation 4 or a touchscreen laptop!

You’re encouraged to complete as many cards as possible throughout the summer for multiple entries in all prize drawings. Additionally, you can review books read during TSR to earn more entries in the weekly drawings! The fun lasts June 2nd-July 31st and is for teens ages 12-18 or entering grades 7-12. Sign up and make your reading count!
