Win Breakfast with author John Green!
Teen Haiku Contest

In John Green’s book An Abundance of Katherines, Colin Singleton is obsessed with anagrams. To win the Teen Haiku Contest, compose a haiku using an anagram of your name or the name of one of the main characters of either Looking for Alaska (Miles Halter) or An Abundance of Katherines (Colin Singleton). The haiku can be on any topic.

A haiku is a Japanese three line poem in which the first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line has five syllables.

An anagram is a rearrangement of the letters of one word or phrase to form another word or phrase. An example is all the letters in Britney Spears can be rearranged to spell Presbyterians. To anagram a name, visit: http://wordsmith.org/anagram/

The contest is open to teens ages 12-18 or in grades 7-12. To be eligible to win, the participating teen, or someone living at the teen’s permanent residence, must be a full-privilege Spartanburg County Public Library cardholder.

The contest runs February 1st – 23rd. Entries must be accompanied by the author’s name, address, phone #, age and grade in school and turned in to any Spartanburg County Public Library or emailed to teens@infodepot.org by February 23rd. Entries must also include the name that was anagrammed and the anagram. Entries will be judged by library staff. Winners will be announced by February 27th.

Ten winners will receive a $20 Barnes & Noble gift card, a book by John Green and an invitation to the author breakfast before Jamboread Reading Festival logo on Saturday, March 1st.

If you have comments or questions, please contact the Teen Services Department at 864-596-3500 ext. 1241.

When using the Libraries' Catalog try searching titles that begin with "a, an, or the" by dropping the "a, an, or the." For example: "The Great Gatsby" could be searched by using only "Great Gatsby."
