The Bethlehem Center is a multi-service agency providing an array of programs to
residents in Spartanburg County. The Center's day care facility has the capacity
to serve 48 children between the ages of eighteen months and five. The outreach department

FENCE is a 394 acre non-profit nature education and recreation center. There
are five miles of hiking trails and also a hard-paved trail for the physically

Blockhouse Steeplechase is run every spring. FENCE offers a wide range of

Hollywild is a 100-acre park exhibiting hundreds of animals, many of which have
been used by the film industry to produce movies and commercials. The park
offers educational programs, contact areas, feeding stations, picnic areas,

roaming animals surround visitors during their ride and eat out of their hands).
During the Christmas Holidays the entire Park is converted into a drive-thru
featuring many live animals and the largest light exhibit in the upstate. Train
rides have also been added.

Former home of William Henry Gist, the Secession Governor of SC. Constructed
1828-1832 in Union District, this Federal style house was the focal point of a
cotton plantation of over 3,700 acres in 1860. There is also a picnic shelter, a

available. DIRECTIONS: Take US 176 (Pine Street) to the town of Union. Pass
through town, and look for a sign on the right pointing to park (at intersection

appropriate referrals and, if necessary, involve emergency personnel. Calls are

Established 1979. Over 350 members. On Wednesdays provides Adventures in
Learning program for continuing education in various academic and recreational
subjects. Holds bridge, art classes, creative writing, language classes, tai
chi, line dancing, and computer classes and other workshops weekly, on
Wednesdays and Fridays. Volunteers for the Mobile Meals Service. Wednesday
lunches are available for $4.00 and by reservation. There are no July or
December meetings.

background check, and commit to spend 12-16 hours per month with the child.

Girl Scouting offers informal education programs to girls. Through a wide range
of activities, girls are allowed to realize their self-potential, develop
leadership skills, gain insight to the decision-making process, deepen their
values, work together collectively and contribute to the betterment of society.
The program is delivered through regularly scheduled troop meetings (as decided
on by each group) and special events conducted by adult volunteers, who serve as
positive role models, mentors and friends of today's girls.
