Uprooted by Naomi Novik - book cover

Naomi Novik is the bestselling author of the alternate history and fantasy Temeraire series, which reimagines the Napoleonic Wars with an air force of aviators flying dragons rather than planes. Novik’s most recent novel, Uprooted, is a dazzling fantasy that follows one young woman who is taken as a sacrifice to a wizard who both protects and terrifies her community. Uprooted won the Nebula and Locus Awards for Best Novel, and was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Novel. Novik will speak about her writing process and what it’s like to be one of the biggest names in fantasy. Make sure to swing by The Library Store to pick up a copy of Uprooted to have signed!

Cosplay Contest

Registration from 1:00 to 3:45pm

Contest at 4:00pm in the Barrett Room

Let’s be honest: one of the best parts of SpartanCon is seeing how everyone dresses up. Why not get rewarded for your skills as a cosplayer? Make sure you bring your best to compete for the grand prize! We welcome children to participate, but grand prize eligibility is limited to cosplayers 18 and older.

Artists' Alley

1:00-5:00pm on the main level

It isn’t a con unless you can take home some cool art, and artists from all over the upstate and beyond will be on hand selling their wares. Be sure to bring cash with you, and make sure you also swing by the Library Store to purchase official SpartanCon swag and the books and comics of our featured guests!

SpartanCon Code of Conduct

At SpartanCon, we want everyone to feel safe and have fun. Keeping that in mind, we’ve created the following Code of Conduct so everyone, from the tiniest BB-8 to the biggest Hulk, will have a great time.

★   BE RESPECTFUL. Don’t say or do anything your mother wouldn’t like.

★   Cosplay ≠ consent. Always ask cosplayers for permission before touching or photographing them or their costumes.

★   Please remember: this is a library. There will be children in and around the building. Be mindful of this when displaying your cosplay. For more information, see code rule #1.

★   We are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property. We will have a lost and found in place if you find a spare light saber.

★   No weapons. We reserve the right to check and test any props that may look like legitimate weaponry.

★   Any library policy is also SpartanCon policy. Wearing wings doesn’t mean you can drink Red Bull in the stacks.

We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave with or without reason to maintain the safety and happiness of everyone at SpartanCon.

This is SpartanCon’s final year. Thank you so much for all your support of this event! If you have any questions, please contact us at
