Think downtown Spartanburg is bustling now with all the new construction? 
Think again. In the early 20th century, downtown was uptown -- the place to be for businesses and customers alike.  Textiles may have dominated the county's economy, but there were plenty of small businessmen who made the center of Spartanburg the place to conduct business for miles around.
A new display in the Kennedy Room of the headquarters of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries showcases Spartanburg as the Hub of Business it was nearly a century ago.
